I’m a Michigan Girl born and raised but have lived a lot of places in-between.
After receiving a bachelor’s in journalism/public relations from Madonna University, I quickly learning that I enjoyed writing, not reporting. So, what do you do when you’re 24 and not sure what to do in life? Move to an island! That’s right, me and a dear friend packed up my little white truck and moved to Key West. It was an amazing adventure, where I met amazing people that I’m still friends with to this day.
From there I was transferred to a location in Savannah, GA and then to St. Augustine, FL. Each place was so special, but I fell in love with St. Augustine. After receiving some sad news from home, as much as I loved St Augustine, I knew it was time to go back. While I was there, I was reintroduced to a boy I met in 5th grade and had a huge crush on. And this is a lesson on never saying never. I swore that I would never marry a man I grew up with, but here we are, with 3 dogs.
Our adventures didn’t keep us in Michigan for that moment. A new corporate training position took us to California and then to Ohio. In the middle of all that I received a master’s degree from Michigan State University for business management, leadership and organization.
I have been a Christian my entire life. But in late 2018, my mom was diagnosed with cancer, and I took a good look at God and the bible. God knew I’d need help and put people in my life to help me learn and focus. My mom fought till her last breath but was called home in 2020. And writing once again was my escape. Then 17 months later my dad died suddenly. I’m not sure I would have made it through those enormous losses without the help of God. My parents were everything to me.
We are back home in Michigan, and I love being around my family and friends again. But not having my parents here with me is still hard.
My mission is to help people deal with loss. Writing is therapeutic to me and with God’s help, I want to use my writing to help others. Whether you, yourself, have lost someone, or know someone who has, I invite you on this journey with me. Let’s talk about life and death and everything that happens in between!
Thank you for being here,
Becky
